Easy Apple Pie Recipe

Homemade Crust

  • 1/2 cup butter melted
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 egg lightly beaten for egg wash

Apple Pie Filling

  • 6 apples peeled and sliced thinly
  • 3 tbsps lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp ground cloves
  • 2 tbsps flour


  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup butter softened
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 1 cup oats


Prepping the Apple Pie

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  • In a bowl, mix together all the ingredients for your crust until you have a consistent dough. It shouldn't be too sticky or oily. Refrigerate the dough while you prepare the pie filling and topping. (See images 1 and 2)
  • In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, cinnamon, and cloves for your filling and set aside.
  • Next in a separate bowl, mix together apples, your brown sugar mixture, and lemon juice.
  • Mix in the flour one tbsp at a time being mindful of how much liquid is in your mixture. If your apples contain a lot of juice, you will want to use all the flour (and maybe more) to balance it out. If not, you may want to use less. Set aside once you have finished. (See image 3)
  • For your pie topping, mix your brown sugar and nutmeg together in a large bowl. Add in the softened butter and cream together with a mixer.
  • Next add in flour and oats, mixing well with a wooden spoon until fully combined. Using your hands create crumbs from the dough for sprinkling (see image 4).

Assemble and Bake

  • Roll out the crust dough that you had refrigerated onto wax paper or a lightly floured clean surface until it is a 1/4 inch thick and is large enough for your pie pan. Transfer your pie crust to your pie pan and cut off any excess pie dough spilling over the edges. (See image 5)
  • Next evenly distribute your apple pie filling on top of the crust until your pan is filled (see image 6).
  • Sprinkle your crumbs on top and score the pie crust edges with a fork. Finally, brush the egg wash on the edges to complete your apple pie (see image 7).
  • Bake for 50 min to 1 hr or until the top appears golden brown and your pie filling is no longer runny (see image 8).
  • Cool for 5-10 minutes before slicing and serve with vanilla ice cream. Enjoy!
