1. Cozy up your space with a throw blanket on your couch

The absolute first thing you need when you’re trying to cozy up your space for the fall is one of those plush throws to drape on the side of your couch. Because a throw says, “it’s getting chilly outside, let’s stay warm together.”

Plus it’s practical and pretty, and adds that cozy fall feeling to your couch. When I see a throw, it makes me want to get comfortable on the couch, drink something warm, and watch Gilmore Girls. In my opinion, it’s the best fall accessory for your home.

2. Scented candles that smell like Fall

Scented candles are a great way to bring the smell of fall inside and cozy up your space. Because certain scents create that holiday feeling like pumpkin spice or gingerbread. I’ve found that the baking scents alone like vanilla and cinnamon always make a space feel homier.

Calming scents like lavender and peppermint are great for making a space feel relaxed too. And they’re known to improve mental health. Which is helpful for those of us who are prone to seasonal depression as it gets darker.

Check out this cinnamon pecan swirl candle. I’m sure you’ll love this fall scent.

3. Pumpkins pumpkins pumpkins!

Pumpkins are my favourite part of fall! Because they’re another way to bring the season inside your home and create that cozy fall feeling.

You can get them at a pumpkin patch and support your local farmers (Downey’s or Pingles, if you live in the GTA). Or you can buy fake versions, and take them out to decorate every year when fall rolls around.

The orange and white of the pumpkins are a great way to decorate your space with fall colours for thanksgiving. You can place the small ones on a coffee table or fireplace. And carve the big ones to start getting ready for Halloween!

4. Cozy up your space by bringing the changing leaves inside…sort of

If you’ve read my previous blog post about turning your boring balcony into a Pinterest worthy space, you already know I’m a big believer of fake foliage. Yes, I still love real plants. I even have an orchid at home that I practically treat like my child.

But when you want to cozy up your space for fall, I definitely think fake fall leaves are the way to go. Mostly because you can pull them out every year to reuse them and they don’t dry out and get crunchy.

Decorating your space with fall leaves is another great way to bring the season inside and add colour to your home. Whether that’s using decorative wreaths or getting really creative and decorating your walls with them.

You can get a huge pack of them for about $15 at Amazon.

5. Fall inspired wall art

Words can really set the tone for a space and encourage the feeling you want for that room. Wooden plaques or wall art with fall sayings on them are a great way to do that.

Choose ones with cozy or seasonal sayings, or even thankfulness. They can help create an encouraging and inviting space, since they’re all positive reminders.

6. Cozy up your space with new pillow covers

The season is changing, so maybe your pillows should to. I absolutely love fall pillow covers.

Whether it’s fall sayings, colours, or fabrics, they’re a great way to make a space feel warm and cozy. Because you’re essentially trying to create a feeling that makes you want to snuggle up on your couch. What better way to do that, than with pillows?

Pillows can automatically make a space feel cozier and homier when choosing the right ones. Here’s a few fall pillow covers, you can look through all under $30.

7. Cozy Fall mugs

Mugs! There is a reason why almost every beautiful fall photo on Instagram has a mug in it. Because mugs automatically make you think of crisp cool weather and warm drinks.

My favourite part of fall is snuggling up on my couch with a warm drink and a book. When you add in a cozy throw and a pillow, then you’ve got a perfect fall afternoon. So get a few mugs with fall sayings on them to cozy up your space.

8. Fall inspired wine glasses

Imagine sipping red wine by a fire (#teamred) with a cozy throw, some pillows, a good book, and your dog. Now that’s a perfect evening in my opinion. If warm drinks are perfect for fall during the day, then wine is the evening equivalent. And wine means wine glasses.

I actually recently got a new stemless wine glass that says “witch please” on it and I love it. So get a few fall and winter themed wine glasses. They’ll go with your overall change in decor.

9. Create a cozy atmosphere with lanterns

I’ve said this in the past, but lighting really is everything. It creates the atmosphere you want in your space.

And the source of that lighting can also add to that fall feel you’re going for. I personally love mason jar lanterns. Because you can decorate jars for any season, changing colours or designs. And then light them up by using LED light lids.

There are also rustic lanterns, if you’re a fan of the barn wood look and don’t have the time for DIY projects. Lanterns are a nice alternative to candles when you want to dim the lighting and cozy up your space.

10. Indoor Fall starry night with leaf string lights

Fall leaves and string lights are the perfect combination. They combine the magic of twinkly lights and fall colours. You can cozy up your space with them as another alternative to dim lighting by hanging them on your walls.

If you want to get really creative, you can hang them on your ceiling. It’ll be like sitting outside under a canopy of fall leaves with the lights acting like stars. Imagine cozying up with someone (or your dog) under that with a glass of wine.
